TENNIS ROUNDUP (4-19)

TENNIS ROUNDUP: Polson boys chalk up win over St. Ignatius
By the Missoulian
POLSON - Tennis and snow go together about as well as downhill skiing and 90-degree weather.

The Polson tennis team can vouch for that.

The Pirates only made it halfway through their schedule Saturday before the weather intervened and matches with the Anaconda girls and Ronan boys were canceled because of snow.

But not all was lost.

The Polson boys were able to fit in a 6-1 win over St. Ignatius, while the Dillon girls trumped the Pirates, 5-2.

The Pirates swept the boys' doubles matches and picked up all but the No. 1 singles contest for the nonconference win over the Bulldogs.

Karston Erickson and Tyler Engebretson led the way for Polson with an 8-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match, while St. Ignatius' lone win was delivered by Wyatt McCollum at the No. 1 singles slot.

On the girls' side, the Pirates weren't so lucky.

Dillon swept Polson in singles action and picked up another win in the No. 2 doubles match to sink the Pirates.

The Beavers were led by Stacey Velesco, who pulled out a 6-3, 2-6, 11-9 win in the No. 1 singles match, while Dillon received its lone doubles win from the No. 2 tandem of Nadine Dietrich and Alyse Baker.

Polson was led by Cali Hislop and Mattea York, who claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory in the No. 1 doubles contest.
