FRENCHTOWN — Polson finished two-day play at the Frenchtown Invitational with two more softball victories Saturday.

The Pirates (13-1) dropped Hamilton 5-2 and Anaconda 13-0.

Polson opened the invitational on Friday with a 4-2 victory over Corvallis.


Sarah Newton homered in the fourth inning against Anaconda, a three-run blast to left center. She went 2-for-3 in that game and 3-for-4 against Hamilton.

Dakota Peterson was the winning pitcher in both games, improving to 10-1 on the season. She combined with Newton to throw a two-hitter against Anaconda.

Polson is currently riding a five-game winning streak.

FRENCHTOWN — Whitefish finished the Frenchtown Invitational on a strong note, edging Anaconda and Ronan.

The Bulldogs went 3-1 in the two-day event.

“A great day,” Whitefish coach David Dachs said.

“The kids played well. No errors on the day. That’s great.”

Devyn Ost went 3-for-3 against Anaconda and Hailey Mortensen drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.

Adele FauntLeRoy and Desiree Clarke both stole home for Whitefish in the sixth inning against Ronan. Ost singled in Mortensen for the final run in that inning.

Whitefish (6-6) added three more runs in the seventh.

FauntLeRoy went 2-for-4 while Clarke went 2-for-3.

Ronan beat Butte Central 5-4 with a run in the top of the ninth.

FRENCHTOWN — It was another tough day for Libby as the Loggers dropped two more contests at the Frenchtown Invitational.

The Loggers finished tournament play, which began Friday, with an 0-3 mark.

Katelyn Jedlicka slammed a three-run home run for Thompson Falls in the first inning.

Libby is now 8-3 on the season.

Kimi Klin went 2-for-3 for Libby against Frenchtown. Brooke Hageness and Laice Dedrick both went 2-for-4 against Thompson Falls to lead the Loggers.

Russ caps Broncs' tourney with 3 homers

FRENCHTOWN - The Frenchtown girls' softball team closed its annual tournament with an exclamation point on Saturday, thanks largely to Shelby Russ.

The junior pitcher flipped the script with three home runs in a 14-6 victory over Columbia Falls in one of the final games at the two-day Frenchtown Invitational.

Russ was a perfect 5-for-5 with five runs batted in. The Broncs slugged 17 hits in the capper, including another home run by Frenchtown junior Kristy Kees.


The Broncs went 4-0 at their own tournament and looked as dominant as ever. Frenchtown (10-1) added a 9-7 victory over perennial Class A powerhouse Libby in their first game of the day.

“It was a good tournament,” Broncs coach Eli Field said. “It was nice to have a good day of weather to get out there and play and feel like the season actually started. It's been a long time coming.”

Russ earned the victory against Columbia Falls. She struck out eight and walked five in upping her season record to 9-1.

Kees, who finished with three RBIs, was joined by Noelle Lebsock, Jennifer Chapman and Aimee Duncan with two hits.

Lindsay Nelson was 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Columbia Falls.

Shelby Meuchel knocked in four runners off a pair of doubles to lead Florence to the win.

Kelsi Hoagland pitched a complete game and struck out four batters to lead Florence on the mound.

Lindsey McGee drove in two runs to lead Stevensville (2-8) and finished with two of the team's six hits.

At Frenchtown, Loyola Sacred Heart leadoff batter Rose Harrington had herself a fine start to the second day of the tourney as the Breakers beat the Broncs in nonconference action.

Harrington went 3-for-4 with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Teammate Tayven Blome also had three hits to go with two RBIs.

Loyola starter Sarah Osellame gave up 12 hits, but still managed to get the win.

Nicki Koning was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to pace the Broncs (5-8).

Kristen Ferguson added a pair of hits and drove in a run for Hamilton, which has lost five in a row.

At Frenchtown, Izzy Miller struck out six and pitched a complete game to lead the Yellowjackets to a win over Troy.

Miller tripled and was one of three players to finish with a pair of RBIs for Stevensville. Lindsey McGee and Morgan Park were the other two Yellowjackets with two RBIs.

The Trojans were led by Delsey Olds, who doubled and had the team's lone two hits.

At Frenchtown, the Falcons posted a Western B-C win in five innings due to the 10-run margin rule behind a strong effort from Kayla Daniels.

Daniels, the second hitter in the Florence lineup, went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. She belted a two-run single in the Falcons' seven-run fourth inning.

Mo Chapman singled twice for Florence (6-2, 7-5) and collected a game-high three RBIs.

Chelsea Ralls went the distance on the mound for the Falcons, walking one, striking out one and allowing nine hits.

Megan Etienne was 2-for-3 with a double to pace the Trojans.
