"The difference was our hitting," Polson coach Jan Toth said. "The girls had a mindset and even though we're young, we're tough and it showed."
The win improves the Pirates to 2-2 in conference, while Bigfork fell to 3-1. Both teams have played only conference matches. Senior Roxanne Thurman led Bigfork with 14 kills and four aces, while Jill Hamilton did her best to counter the hits, scooping up 17 of Bigfork's 71 digs. Polson def. Bigfork, 29-27, 25-23, 25-17. Kills - Bigfork 26 (Roxanne Thurman 14), Polson 48 (Nichole Davey 11). Blocks - Bigfork 5 (Jill Hamilton 2, Rachel Luckow 2), Polson 5 (Davey 2, Loni Havlovick 2). Digs - Bigfork 71 (Hamilton 17), Polson 64 (Staci Benson 17). Assists - Bigfork 20 (Luckow 11), Polson 40 (Kayla Duford 38). Aces - Bigfork 5 (Mallory Knoll 4, Thurman 4), Polson 6 (Duford 6). Frenchtown def. Ronan, 3-1 At Ronan, a tricky first game didn't keep Frenchtown from posting a nonconference win over Ronan. Laura Geis had 17 kills and eight blocks to lead the Broncs to a 28-30, 25-14, 25-21, 25-15 victory. Frenchtown improved to 5-3 overall. The Broncs are 4-1 in Southwestern A play. Preslee Maki added eight stuffs and Sierra Scheffer dug 16 balls for Frenchtown, which has two losses to Class AA foe Missoula Hellgate. Carli Starkel led the Northwestern A Maidens with 11 kills, 36 digs and four aces. Kaylee Larson also had eight kills and 17 digs for Ronan (2-4). Frenchtown def. Ronan, 28-30, 25-14, 25-21, 25-15.
