Loggers top Bulldogs in marathon match

WHITEFISH - In a see-saw struggle between Northwestern A volleyball powers, Libby saved some of its best for last Thursday.

The Loggers bounced back from a rough fourth game to edge Whitefish, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22, 6-25, 15-8 in a five-set thriller. Libby moved to 2-1 in league play, 2-1 overall, while the Bulldogs, last year's state runners-up, fell to 1-2, 1-2.

"Libby just outplayed us and outhustled us," said Whitefish veteran coach Jackie Fuller.


The Loggers benefited from a big night by 6-foot-1 junior Jackie Mee. She tallied teams highs in kills (22), digs (13) and blocks (2). Teammate Jordan Refsland dished out 21 assists and Gen Meha had five aces.

Shannon Kalbfleisch tallied 10 kills and McCara Cullen 17 digs for Whitefish. Teammate Kate Klundt collected 10 blocks and five aces.

Libby def. Whitefish, 25-18, 15-25, 25-22, 6-25, 15-8.

Kills - Libby 50 (Jackie Mee 22), Whitefish 23 (Shannon Kalbfleisch 10). Blocks - Libby 4 (Mee 2), Whitefish 15 (Kate Klundt 10). Digs - Libby 67 (Mee 13), Whitefish 82 (McCara Cullen 17). Assists - Libby 41 (Jordan Refsland 21), Whitefish 22 (Jade Hansen 11). Aces - Libby 11 (Gen Meha 5), Whitefish 11 (Kate Klundt 5).


Bigfork def. Columbia Falls, 3-1

At Columbia Falls, Mallory Knoll paced the Vals to a 25-14, 25-15, 22-25, 25-11 Northwestern A win.

Knoll had eight kills and 20 digs. Roxy Thurman put up five blocks for Bigfork, while Claire Wilken set 15 assists and Jill Hamilton collected seven aces.

Alyssa Ladenburg led the way for the Wildkats with nine kills, 20 digs and three aces.

Kills - Bigfork 32 (Mallory Knoll 8), Columbia Falls 24 (Alyssa Ladenburg 9). Blocks - Bigfork 10 (Roxy Thurman 5), Columbia Falls 3 (three with one each). Digs - Bigfork 60 (Knoll 20), Columbia Falls 64 (Ladenburg 20). Assists - Bigfork 28 (Claire Wilken 15), Columbia Falls 21 (Cedar Smith 10). Aces - Bigfork 19 (Jill Hamilton 7), Columbia Falls 7 (Ladenburg 3).


Ronan def. Stevensville, 3-0

At Stevensville, the Northwestern A Maidens rolled to a 25-19, 25-19, 25-12 sweep of Southwestern A Stevensville.

Carli Starkel led the way for Ronan with seven kills and and 20 digs. Kelsey Swalling provided the Maidens with 13 assists and two blocks, while Kaylee Larson had a team-high four aces.

Maddie Jones led the Yellowjackets (0-5) with five kills and four aces.
