CROSS COUNTRY ROUNDUP: Bulldogs, Broncs win in Whitefish

WHITEFISH - Frenchtown's boys and the Whitefish girls captured the team crowns Saturday at the Whitefish Invitational cross country meet.

Clay Armstrong, Quinton Tolman and Nathan Francis earned top-10 finishes to give the Broncs a team score of 45. They nipped a Columbia Falls team that had three of the top four finishers and scored 52 points. Whitefish was third with 64.

Derrick Williams of Columbia Falls won the boys' race in 16 minutes, 24 seconds, just a fraction of a second ahead of Armstrong. The Wildcats' Justin Whitman was third in 16:25 and Shawn Whitman was fourth in 16:27.

The Broncs' Tolman was seventh in 17:11 and Francis was eighth in 17:27.

The Whitefish girls took the top three places en route to a team score of 19, easily outdistancing Thompson Falls with 63 and Columbia Falls with 73.

The Bulldogs' Loni Hanson won the race in 18:34, 14 seconds ahead of teammate Bailey Eaton. The Bulldogs' Jessica Sagen was another second back, followed by Emily Schall of Frenchtown in 19:39.
